When you have great news to share, why not have a party?
In our case, the news was the joining together of our two firms: COLE+Associates Architects Inc. and IDEA Inc. The last year has served as a transition period, but going forward in the new year we’re excited to announce that we’ll be known just as IDEA. That’s certainly something worth celebrating, so we brought together all our closest friends and colleagues to the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) to do it in style.
The CaGBC, located in Canada’s first zero-carbon performance-certified building, is of course a project that we’re proud to have designed. As this is the national headquarters for a non-profit devoted to green building and sustainable development, we had to get all the details right. That’s why we designed the office to the high standards of LEED v4 Commercial Interiors Gold Certification and WELL v2 Platinum Certification, making it a sustainable and healthy workplace. It has 40 workstations, six offices, three meeting rooms, and a kitchen all with beautiful daylighting, natural tones, and open spaces.
On September 19, the office also had a jazz band, oyster bar, and whiskey tasting station.
The party involved great conversation set both inside the office and spilling out onto the fourth-floor terrace to give everybody spectacular views of the Byward Market as the sun set.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of our updated IDEA logo, which incorporates the history of both firms into a one fresh identity in the future. Keep an eye out for it–you’ll be seeing us as IDEA in 2020 and beyond!
As Studio Director of Architecture David Cole and Principal Ryan Crowle explained in their remarks to the crowd, the firm will continue to operate to the usual high quality we’re known for–only now with combined experience, increased human resources, and broadened capabilities. IDEA has offices in Sault Ste. Marie and Ottawa and offers architectural and engineering services within the Institutional, Commercial & Industrial (ICI) sector. A holistic approach to high performance building design and construction, a deep knowledge of the art of design and strong attention to detail are the pillars of the integrated approach at IDEA.
We are proud of our new identity, and were delighted to share and celebrate it at our “New IDEA” event. Thank you to all who attended, and special thanks to True Dot Design for putting it together. If you missed it, or want to re-live the experience, check out the photo gallery below!
