COLE+Associates celebrate back to back CAHP Award of Excellence wins in the Heritage Planning Category! David Cole was on hand to accept the 2014 award from the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals Friday October 3rd in Charlottetown, PEI. Our joint venture submission with DMA of Montreal for the East Block, Southwest Tower; Water Infiltration & Structural Stabilization Investigation & Interim Repairs project was this year’s winner while the Confederation Building project also undertaken by our two firms won in 2013.
The goal for this project was to protect the heritage value and quality of the East Block Southwest Tower as well as health & safety and risk management, while maintaining its continuity of operations. C+A focused its strategy on interventions that would be temporary and reversible, but offer a high impact with regards to preserving the heritage fabric. With a clear goal to preserve and protect the heritage value of the building for the occupants and the general public, the East Block Southwest Tower will remain a landmark of Ottawa. With short-term work being undertaken in the near future, much and more of this nearly 150 year old Tower will be conserved and ready for its upcoming holistic, major rehabilitation.
